A Quiet Morning, A Quiet Mind

My T2 Quiet Mind tea and homemade banana bread while writing this blog this morning

There has been so many stressors coming at us these days. From our global news, our erratic weather, our rising food prices, our on/off travel restrictions, our failing supply chain, our worrisome future, the list goes on.

Sometimes it helps me to take a step back to gain some perspective. Birth, love grief, loss, joy, connection, death. These have always been and always will be a part our human experience, regardless of the circumstances we experience them in.

This morning is day light savings. I got up early as usual, but rather then scrolling through the news, preparing for work (yes, on a Sunday), rushing to cook for the week, or scroll through social media, I spent some time just starring out the window and marveling at this winter wonderland brought by yesterday’s storm.

“Many good things in life take time. Time to slow down, time to heal, time to grow, time to relax, time to explore, time to journey.” was the thought that came to my mind. And it’s true, in the beginning of the pandemic, I learned the lesson of slowing down and developed a greater appreciation for human connection, and the joy of simple things, like a cup of lovingly brewed tea over some home baked breads.

Over time as things opened back up and our lives got busier, those lessons got put back in the back burner as our lives focused back on “what’s next” rather than the now, along with a notable shift from focus on serving and loving others, to focusing on our own lack and busy mind. Connecting back to our old normal has felt like a disconnection from our spirit.

With that thought, I went through my cupboard of teas, and found one of tea that I had picked up for less than 1/3 the price on sale a while back, something I’ve been saving for a special morning like this. “Quiet Mind” from T2.

Before the house is busy and bustling with life in another hour, brewing a cup of loose leaf tea and slicing a piece of banana bread in preparation to write has brought me tremendous joy this morning. I hope you also take a moment to stop and do something that brings you joy, whether it be starring out the window, or your loved ones asleep.

Because sometimes our experience of joy and sorrow depends what we choose to focus on.
